Material: Martensitic stainless steel:
Hardness 55-57 HRC. Origin Europe.
The stainless steel of OPINEL blades is an optimized grade to guarantee both high resistance to corrosion and high mechanical performance.
The blade offers an excellent cutting edge and high resistance to abrasion (wear) which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramic, before requiring resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage of requiring no special maintenance under ordinary use conditions, unlike carbon steel. However, it may encounter its limits when put in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.).
Handle: Hornbeam comes from French farms. It is a white wood with little grain, ideal for applying colors without distorting them. The handle is varnished to be better protected against humidity and dirt.
